Private (paying) Beaches in Nice date of last visit:
August 2004
July 2006
It was reported in the local paper 'Nice Matin' that this beach is now closed. It was the only true private beach in Nice as opposed to the concessions along the promenade des Anglais.
Le Plongeoir Beach
Le Plongoir Private Beach, a view of this becah from the main road, blvd Frank Pilatte
Le Plongeoir Beach, boulevard Franck Pilatte, the far side of Nice Port.
Le Plongeoir Beach stands alone on the far side of the Port next to the free La Reserve Beach off boulevard Franck Pilatte.

It is tiny and utterly charming and makes a real change from the run of private  beaches along the quai D'Etats Uni and the Promenade des Anglais.

It is very close to our studio - it takes about as long to walk here from the Port as it does to reach the first private beach along the Prom, Castel Plage, about ten minutes, so it is nice to have a choice, you go to the Port and decide - west for Castel Plage or east for Le Plongeoir.

It is also the cheapest private beach in Nice (that I have found so far) 9 euros for a mattress and parasol on the lower decking. This is probably a reflection of its location and slightly haphazard facilities, the emphasis being on 'hazard'. This is not a beach for the faint-hearted, those with a fear of heights, those suffering from Vertigo or in any way less than fairly nimble.

I came here with my sister and daughter. My sister has mild MS and could manage neither getting into the sea nor the shower; and generally wasn't too hot on the rickety bridges, steps and paths that need to be negotiated to get to the loo, bar, sea, showers and restaurant.

It does make for a somewhat adventurous day, and I wouldn't overdo the wine at lunchtime or you'll never make it back to dry land. Don't let me put you off, I suggest you try it and see. It was certainly an interesting day. Great views and breezes from the high-level restaurant. Friendly and courteous service is an additional bonus.
contact details for Le Plongoir Beach
Le Plongeoir Beach, contact details, best to phone first as there is no other private beach nearby. It is only small and it would be a shame if you turn up and there's no room.
