| December 2007 - skiing in Isola 2000 Nice is a great base for skiing. Local ski resorts in the Southern French Alpes are Isola 2000, Valberg, Auron, Greolieres and Limone in Italy. The closest is Isola 2000, about 60 miles and one and a half hours drive (2 hours on the skibus) You can take the skibus from the centre of Nice to Isola 2000 for 30 euros (2007/08 prices) for a day return including the ski pass. Trip review here You can also take a regular bus, the TAM 750 to Isola 2000 from the Gare Routiere in Nice for a DIY day trip skiing. You will need to buy a pass once you are there. We went in April 2007, and December 2007 just for the day. Click on the links to read my blog posts. There are coaches to other ski resorts from Nice Cote d'Azur airport We ski every year in Meribel Mottaret, part of Les Trois Vallees in themain French Alpes, a 6-hour drive from Nice, see photos below. It's much cheaper to fly to Nice and hire a car (with snow chains) than fly to the closer airport of Geneva where you will still require transfers. We saved about 700 GB pounds booking easyjet flights to Nice for Feb 2007 even with the cost of hiring a car. It's handy having the studio to stay either end of the holiday and all our ski stuff gets stored in the cave. Nice Carnival takes place every February, not my cup of tea but it's sort of nice that it's on when we're around. |
